EXERCISE: WHAT DOES A GAME DESIGNER DO?

Exercise xxxTITLExxx
Easy - 10 mins

HERE WE GO - A GAME DESIGNER

+1

A game designer can do many things in addition to game design, like level design, monetisation design, write storylines and more.
Please complete the exercise above to see all the possibilities!
This will depend on the size of the company. In a smaller company you have to do more. In bigger ones, there might be separate level designers, writers and F2P designers.

AS A GAME DESIGNER

+1

You'll need to invent
- New game ideas
- New mechanics to a theme
- Power-ups
- Characters
- Names
- Stories
- Levels, Objects, Themes

  • Sometimes in very short time
  • It's creative
  • It's group work

GAME FLOW DIAGRAM

You also need to describe how the flow works. You can find more in the Design Workshop!

LEVEL DESIGN

+1

I've done tons of levels (more from here, but maybe later ;). This one is from a mini-golf game. The black "skull" is a touch plate with a spring. Hit it and it will throw the ball to the next plate and then to the hole - if you get the speed right!

IN SHORT

+1

In short you could say a designers workday consists of:

1 / 3 Gameplaying: testing, feedback

1 / 3 Designing

1 / 3 Communicating
